--- making "lose my breath" better
amazing soca version (destiny's beat with soca vocals and extended marching drums + soca whistles intro!!!) 'doing' the 'rounds' on 1xtra. but i dunno what it's called or if it's a blend or wot. it might be the hottest thing i've ever heard in my life. also there is the northwest allstars' inspirational double-time cut-up spazz version of the beat on "north weezy" ('why do we hate girls? they're sleazy!'???), those dudes are angry! more to come about them soon so we can do some kind of southside vs northwest face-off.
--- uk raphop
could be a breakout year for roots ma-... no wait i hate him! good uk rap remains as rare as i don't know the fuck what. but channel u fave "ey ey" by def 1 is disturbingly catchy hotness! check the video on this page.
--- amerie
"one thing" is so achingly sick (the best song of 04 and 05 except for "oh") i had to ration playing it in case it gets the world ubiquity vote by summer! and it had better otherwise it's your fault, jackass! rich lovecraft harrison and amerie still the j nicholson and h hunt of r'n'b.
--- clownstep
innit.
--- mid-nineties rnb revival
yeah you might reasonably suggest this happens every year but akon is the mid-ninetiesest dude ever. "locked up" is the kind of tune which made thugs shed a tear directly over their tear tattoo during the blossom ad break, and his newest single ("ghetto" with biggie no less) is like classic 96 stiff programming with all rhythmelodic friction coming from the (great) sample. it's wicked! let's all put on 112. NOW. (112 have a new crunk'n'b single as it happens.)
--- competent grime
grime so competent with the vocal tunes these days! i mean yeah there's always the peaks but the new craft-intensiveness makes shows like cameo - who killed it in 04 with his love for ladygirlgrime - a weekly decaf and a slice of toast late night pleasure. mmm pleasuring cameo. as the man himself remarked, it's the dj cameo in the fresh for the 2005 on the spizzazzz. don't sleep.
