beyonce/jay-z - crazy in love

i'm not sure i like it when people have one of those inconsequential epiphanies where they go "oh, ____ has just blown everything out the water and changed the face of ____ - in fact, it makes every other ____ song look fucking lame, you fucking lamer! especially ____!" but i suppose it might help massive musical changes happen. like if one of these renouncing dudes (who are perhaps normally the people with little emotional investment in the genre in question) said it in a pub then jo whiley or that dude from mtv2 might hear them and suddenly they're on the radio/tv going "yeah fuck mis-teeq, beyonce just locked down the 03 sound and it's exactly like main source circa 91!". mis-teeq get wind of this and suddenly they're making "live at the london grill 04" or a new version of "they reminisce over you" dedicated to the fourth member who left before they got famous! (incidentally she is about to put out a rubbish single!)

which is to say, i saw the "crazy in love" (two amazingly good loops; strong chorus; jay-z) video straight after that new mis-teeq one (complex synth'n'ting construction; average chorus; no jay-z) and i felt bad for thinking they sounded so lame in comparison.
